5 Months!!!

Yes, it’s only been that long. He’s grown and changed so much in such a short time. We got to read the rough draft from our post-placement report (the real thing should be on the way to us) and the social worker had such wonderful things to say about him. We're not surprised. His easy adjustment still amazes us.

My mom and I were able to meet the newest member of our extended family yesterday. My cousin, Lisa and her husband just adopted a little boy named Saxon. He was born three weeks ago. It was fun to hold a newborn, since I didn’t have a chance to start at the beginning with Nicholas. My “baby” is now closing in on 36 lbs. It definitely is nice to have another person know the blessing of adoption. We’re glad that Saxon is now a part of the family.

Also, Nicholas has another new name for his daddy. While he still uses Evan’s first name on occasion, he has now resorted to calling him, “Honey.” Evan was taking a shower the other day when Nicholas called up to him, “Daddy. Honey. Daddy. Honey.” I’m glad I only use nice names for Evan.

Nicholas is also learning a lot about the Christmas season. Today was filled with Christmas activities. First, Nicholas had breakfast at Grandma’s work. He also got to sit on Santa’s lap, see a magic show, and get a balloon animal. We weren’t sure whether or not he would actually sit on Santa’s lap, but we gave him a trial run by letting him sit first with Logan and Haley. Then, he was ready for an individual picture.

He had another opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap later (Boy, Santa had a busy schedule today). This time Santa sounded a lot like his grandpa. We visited the Christmas Open House at the train club where Evan’s dad is a member. Nicholas had a couple of cookies and saw some model trains. A couple of real trains went by, but this time he was indoors and wasn’t as fearful.

Finally, we ate more cake!!! Today is Evan’s sister, Kendra’s birthday, so we were able to sing “Happy Birthday” and have a piece of cake. Nicholas was very excited about having more cake because he talked about it all the way from the train club to Kendra’s house.

Now we’re all resting. Nicholas didn’t have a nap today, so he’s a little tired. We’re hoping he sleeps well tonight. I know Evan and I will.
