School has been going very well. Science continues to be one of the favorites
this year. And, of course, we’ve been
doing a lot of experiments. We have been
learning about solids, liquids and gases.
One of the experiments that we did was to make our own sorbet. They were supposed to shake the bags for
fifteen minutes, but they gave up halfway through. It was more like a slushie, but they still
ate it.
We also blew up a balloon with pop rocks and pop.
We used hydrogen peroxide, dishwashing soap, and yeast to
make a volcano-like substance.
Finally, we made an H2O molecule to learn about protons,
neutrons, and electrons. They were okay
with making the hydrogen atoms. But,
once they saw how much candy would be glued to the oxygen atom there was mutiny. They asked me not to glue
them. So, when we were done reading, the
protons, electrons, and neutrons ended up in their tummies. You've got to love edible science.

We have two weeks of CC under our belts. I think we’re all finding it pretty enjoyable
so far. I like the freedom to be a mom
in the class and not having to prepare each week. This is Nicholas’ fourth year, so he is an
old pro. And, Daniel has been around
enough to kind of know what to expect.
In fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well he has done with his
weekly presentations so far. He is not afraid and loves to ask everyone if they have any questions when he is done.

Daniel is also really getting down a lot of the memory
work. He may love to shake his butt
(just at home) while he’s doing it, but he can tell you a lot information that
way, such as the continents, 8 parts of speech, and much more.
Evan was able to come with us for the first two, but we’re
on our own now. He won’t be taking a
Monday off on any of the next 10 weeks.
We’ll miss being able to have a parent in each class, but since I’m not
tutoring, we’ll be fine.
On another note, the boys started another round of swimming lessons last
week. Their lessons are back-to-back,
so we’re done with both before 10:00.
They both seem like they’ve improved since their last lessons in
June. Daniel’s lessons are a little more
fun, while Nicholas’ is more focused on technique.
The boys also got haircuts this past week. Normally this is not news, but Nicholas went
for a different look. He is trying to
get his hair more like Evan’s style.
Daniel wanted the same look, but his hair is a different
texture, so it wouldn’t look right. Our
hairdresser made it just a tad shorter on the sides. When he got out of the chair he said, “Just
like Nicholas’.” We just smiled and
agreed. Just like Nicholas’, but not
really.
Finally, I will close with some other pictures from the last
couple of weeks. I know I’m not doing a
great job blogging, but I will when I can.
