We even got to eat dinner together as a family, which is a big deal. Evan’s schedule never allows for us to eat dinner together during the week. We do breakfast together as a family instead. Also, there’s no wondering what time he is coming home tonight. He even put Nicholas to bed. I feel like I’m on vacation. Not really, but it is nice having him home.
Our family is ready for Easter. For some reason, teaching Nicholas about Jesus’ death and resurrection has really given it new life to me. We have been working on an Easter coloring book for the last two weeks. Each time he colors a new picture, we read the story to that point. Nicholas pretty much has it memorized. But, it’s his reactions that have really spoken to me. When it says that people did not love Jesus and that they wanted to crucify him, Nicholas is shocked. When the stone is rolled away and they realize Jesus is alive, he is overjoyed.
This has really reminded me that Easter is not just some holiday. It is the greatest sacrifice and act of love. We should be appalled that Jesus was hated and nailed to the cross. We should be moved that he suffered an excruciating and horrible death because he loved us. And, we should rejoice when we realize that he is alive!
We will be attending our church’s Saturday night service this weekend. It will be weird not to attend church on Sunday morning, but our hearts will definitely be rejoicing that Jesus has risen! Jesus is alive!
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
- Isaiah 53:5
