Time

We have a lot going on right now.  Now that the house is up for sale, I also have to work on keeping it as clean and orderly as possible.  That means I’m in a constant state of picking up.  Also, we need to make time to look at houses.  This is easier said than done.  Evan’s schedule is not the most predictable in the evenings.  We have one appointment scheduled to look at houses on Evan's day off, but I may have to do some looking without him in the future.

Evan’s schedule’s unpredictability is something that we are used to, even though we don’t always like it.  It really limits what we can do when it comes to activities.  We've had to say “no” to a lot of things because we don’t know if Evan will be off of work.  On the two days that he is home, we usually have it packed with all kinds of things for our family, or just time to rest.

The boys, thankfully, see Evan every night.  It is rare that he works past their bed times, although that has happened.  The biggest problem is that we don’t know whether he’ll have 30 minutes with them or two hours.

Then, we have our beloved weekend.  Is our weekend Saturday/Sunday or Sunday/Monday?  Who knows?  We don’t do too much on Saturday nights.  Like I said, we don’t know when Evan will get home.  Then, we have church the next morning.  It is a priority and a commitment to us and some weeks we are there until 12:30.  This “weekend” alone is super busy with church, a birthday party, Classical Conversations, and house-related appointments.  That’s a lot busier than we like.

As I watch our calendar fill up each month, we know we need to be careful to budget time just for our family.  We don’t like to run the boys ragged.  Bed times are really important because we don’t enjoy cranky children the next day.  Our boys do better with sleep and we do better when they sleep well too.

So, while this is an exciting time in our life, it is also hard at times.  We know this is just a season.  Evan’s schedule may not always be like it is now.  We’ll eventually sell the house and that will alleviate some things.  It is what it is right now.  We’re thankful that so many people are understanding of our situation.

Now it is time to get ready for the first part of our Saturday/Sunday weekend, or is it the end of our week?
