Golden Birthday

Nicholas turned 9 on the 9th.  It is hard to believe that it is his last year in single digits.  We can really see him growing and changing a lot lately.  Before we know it he’ll be a teenager.

We told Nicholas that we will have a friend party next year.  This year we celebrated multiple times with family.  On the Sunday before his birthday we celebrated with Evan’s family.  Nicholas made it simple this year.  He just wanted pizza and ice cream sundaes.  I don’t know if it is my influence or not, but neither of my kids love cake.  They like it, but prefer other things (and Daniel just prefers the frosting).  So, I let Nicholas pick out all of the ice cream and toppings.

He had a fun time playing with his cousins.  We also got in quite a few games of UNO – some getting quite competitive.

Since Evan had to work on Nicholas’ actual birthday, he ran out before work and made sure to get him a birthday donut.  It is his go-to breakfast for most important occasions.

All Nicholas really wanted this year was a new bike and a new helmet.  We also got him a present that was from Daniel.  Well, Daniel didn’t know what it was, but he was happy to give it to him.  In fact, Daniel told us that he would open it for Nicholas.

Nicholas loved the bike and helmet.  I think it makes him feel older.  He grew out of his old bike probably a year ago, but until we moved here, he didn’t have the opportunity to ride his bike as much.  I’m sure this one will get a lot more use.

We also had the pleasure of having my grandma and my sister come over for lunch.  We enjoyed cheeseburgers and ice cream cake.  There were also a few presents for him to open.

Nicholas finished off the night by going to the Wednesday night program at church.  He brought candy to pass out to all of the kids.  Unfortunately, there was some left.  The chocolate kisses keep calling my name.

On Saturday, Evan took both boys out to a local hot dog place as a belated birthday lunch.  I think they all walked away pretty full.  It also gave me a chance to go out with my sister.

Finally, this past Sunday we celebrated with my parents.  After we were done eating pizza, the guys went downstairs, while my mom and sister helped me do some decorating upstairs.  The house is still a work in progress, but it is really coming along.

Now that Nicholas’ birthday week is over.  We’re starting to focus on Easter.  Palm Sunday is coming up and it will be a big day for both boys.  More on that later . . .
