We had a great time celebrating Easter last weekend. The day before we went over to my parents’
neighborhood, which has an Easter egg hunt each year. The boys each enjoyed a donut before things
got started. They were each able to
collect 25 plastic eggs. They also got a
chance to pose with the Easter bunny.
At home, we made a decision to give our boys their Easter
baskets and do a small egg hunt the night before. For one, we get up really early on
Easter. Two, we want them to focus more
on what Easter really means. So, once
Evan got home, he hid the eggs and baskets for the boys. It was nice having all new hiding spots now
that we’ve moved.
The next morning we got up for the early service. Our church encouraged regular attenders to
attend that service if they could. In
exchange for people getting up early, they provided a small breakfast. Thankfully, we are early risers, so while it
was earlier than normal, it was doable for our family.

We spent the afternoon with Evan’s family. The weather was unbelievable. We allowed the boys to wear shorts and
short-sleeves. They spent a lot of time
playing outside. Evan’s parents’ also had
an Easter egg hunt and baskets for the boys and their cousins. The two youngest cousins made out well with a
little help from their parents.

We know that Nicholas certainly understands what Easter is
about. But, we are finding that Daniel
understands more than we realized. The
Wednesday before Easter, our church held a special family event where the
families could go through 4 stations documenting the last days of Christ. In one station, we had communion. Our pastors have always made a point to
saying how sacred communion is and that you shouldn’t take it unless you have
accepted Christ.
Well, Daniel hasn’t.
And, Daniel wanted grape juice.
He made that clear to everyone.
We talked about it on the way home as he cried, “I wanted minion
(communion)”. We talked about how he
doesn’t have Jesus in his heart. He
said, “Yes, I do.” Then, Nicholas asked
him who Jesus is? Daniel replied,
“God.” He also went on to tell us that
Jesus died on the cross.
So, I’m happy that we started some conversations with
Daniel. Communion is also what started
all the conversations with Nicholas when he was younger. What starts out with being upset about not
having “a snack” may lead Daniel to a relationship in Christ like it did for
his older brother. :)
Well, this past week has been a struggle to get back into our routine. We didn't have CC on Monday, so we started school back on Tuesday when Daniel's preschool resumed. We're starting to get to the point in the school year where we are finishing many of our subjects. We have 2 CCs left. Nicholas is also preparing to try to become a Memory Master this year. So, the next two weeks should be very busy.
