Summer?

Our weather has been strange around here lately.  Some days the boys are in tank tops and shorts and the other days they need to bundle up in pants and sweatshirts.  Today is one of those colder days.

Daniel has done a lot of birthday celebrating.  We met with his birth family a week ago and they got him some nice presents.  He got some bubbles, a board you can write on with water pens (he loves water pens!) and a little drum set (that isn’t overly loud).

The, we celebrated the next day with my family.  It was more like a birthday/anniversary/Memorial Day party.  Both Daniel and Nicholas got some good time on their bikes.  Both are getting very fast.  They can’t really ride much at our current house, so it is always nice to take the bikes somewhere else.

Speaking of bikes, our church had a “School’s Out” event this past Friday.  All of the kids were invited to bring their “wheels” to church.  Then, there was a decoration contest and a parade.  Both boys won a medal for best license plates.  I’m pretty surprised that they won.  I came up with the idea last minute when I found it online.  The boys were happy they won something though.  We were also able to make our own ice cream sundaes.  Since it was one of those hot days and our home currently has no a/c, it was actually nicer to spend the evening outside.

Daniel had some great swimming lessons last week.  With a little help from me, he jumped off the diving block at both lessons.  He thought it was so much fun.  I think it is less intimidating than the diving board because you don’t have to walk that long way by yourself.  Overall, I’m just really impressed by how well he’s done.

Both boys had their annual well-check ups last week.  Everything is fine and the doctor had no issues with their weights this time.  Hopefully, we are done for good with those silly weight checks for my healthy-looking guys.  

Then, the next day, Daniel had his first dentist appointment.  He sat like a pro and listened to the hygienist's instructions.  He has no cavities and was able to get a sticker and pick a prize out of the treasure box.

Finally, we ended the week by celebrating Daniel’s birthday with Evan’s family.  This was his last and final birthday party.  We grilled some hot dogs, burgers and bratwurst.  And, we brought brownies and ice cream for the dessert.  Daniel doesn’t seem to care much about cake other than the frosting, so we decided to go a different route.  I think he ate more strawberries than any other food there though.

This week we start summer school.   Nicholas will be doing math, some spelling review, and cursive.  Daniel will work on his numbers, or nothing at all, depending on the day.  It is supposed to be low-key, so hopefully, it will be that way for all parties involved.  And, maybe, just maybe, this week will start to feel like June, instead of fall.
