Visits

I thought it would be nice to update everyone on our current adoption. This morning we had our final visit with our social worker. She spent an hour with Evan and an hour with me last week. Then there was today’s hour visit together. This one was more educational. We talked about our expectations, as well as the process a little more.

Our home study is pretty much done, except for one document. I want to ask you guys to storm heaven with this prayer request, please. Ohio has a central registry that checks whether you have a child abuse record. Obviously, we don’t. But, they are backlogged and it is taking months to get this simple check done. Once this document is received, we will be officially approved and able to move forward. So, please, pray!

While we wait, we will be working on our birthmother profile. This is like a scrapbook about our family. We are putting together pictures and writing about our relationship, Nicholas’ adoption, our interests, etc. It’s kind of fun and difficult at the same time. We just want to be ourselves, but also put the right amount of information in it.

Then we wait. Possibly, we wait and wait and wait. We’re not exactly sure. In the meantime, we’re going to pray for the birthparents that God has for us. Something we didn’t always think about in our last adoption, until the end, was that there are birth parents. This is a loss for them. We continue to pray for Nicholas’ birth family. Adoption is awesome and great. But, it isn’t without loss.

I find myself so laid back in this process. I’m excited and we’re getting prepared, but we don’t feel a sense of urgency. In order to make it feel real, I am getting a diaper bag ready. This allows me to feel like a baby is coming and getting us prepared in case we are matched closer to the baby’s delivery date. I just buy a couple of items at a time and put them in the bag. I kind of did the same thing with Nicholas, but with clothes. This time we aren’t requesting a gender, so until the birthmother signs the papers placing the child with us, everything will pretty much be gender neutral.

Nicholas will also have to make an adjustment. We’re going to have to prepare him well. While the social worker was here today, he did not like not being the center of attention. He tried to bend a couple of rules. He whined a little. He even crawled under the table and tickled Evan’s feet at one point. So, we see this issue and we’ll do our best to make sure that he’s prepared and has special time with each of us when the baby is here.

But, even Nicholas is excited about “baby brother/baby sister”. If you ask him which he prefers, he’ll tell you a different answer every day. Today it is a brother. We’re so excited for the next child that God has planned for us!
