Maybe Baby?

Thursday morning I found an interesting e-mail from our social worker in my inbox. She was telling all waiting families about a birthmother who wanted to place her baby for adoption. The situation isn’t all roses, but it didn’t make me wince and walk away. Evan and I talked about it. Evan and I prayed about it. And, we are going to let them show our profile to this birthmother next week. We don’t know how many other families will do the same. We don’t know if she will choose us. But, it is still exciting nonetheless.

This is why I have been saying that this could happen at any time. We are still a little short for our matching fee right now (about $800). If you feel led to give, please consider doing so soon. If this birthmother chooses us, we want to be able to say “yes”.

Also, if she does choose us, this baby is due soon. So, we will need to have the placement fee ready pretty quickly as well. There is also the chance that she will need some living expenses during that time. Ohio allows birthmothers up to $3,000 for living expenses. These are well monitored and documented. So, realistically, we want to have an additional $13,000 ready soon! Yes, that is a large amount. But, we trust that God knows how much we need and when we will need it.

There are three ways to help us financially.

1. Our puzzle fundraiser: Sponsor a puzzle piece for $10. We will write your name on the back of the piece so our child can know who helped bring him/her home.

2. Ordinary Hero:  This online store has some great t-shirts and jewelry. We receive 40% of the proceeds toward our adoption expenses. Please put my name in the affiliate drop-down box, so we receive credit. They have some new kids’ shirts, woman’s shirt, and jewelry. You can also donate food and clothing to children in Africa.

3. Lifesong:  Lifesong for Orphans is a non-profit organization that has opened a tax-deductible account for our adoption expenses. You can send your donations to:

Lifesong for Orphans
PO Box 40 / 202 N. Ford Street
Gridley, IL 61744

Please put your donation preference in the memo line of the check – Preference: Morgan #2013. This is very important so the money is earmarked for our adoption.

We are very excited about this opportunity. Whether we are chosen or not, we will continue to pray for this birthmother and her situation. We won’t be sharing the details, but our heart truly breaks for her. Adoption isn’t just about adding a child to your family. There is so much more to it. I truly pray that this birthmother will know Christ’s love for her and lean on him during these trying times.

Thank you to all of you who have been praying and to those that have given already. We feel blessed to have friends and family that love and care about us so much! We will keep you posted on whether or not we are matched. God’s timing is perfect!
