2nd Birthday Re-Cap

I think Daniel enjoyed his 2nd birthday.  We decided that he would open up his gifts from us that morning.  We didn't get him too much because, let’s be honest, he didn't need much.  He loves books and at least one that we bought him has been a big hit.  We also got him a car rug with roads on it.  Daniel is a bit of a comedian and pretended to take a nap on it when he saw it.

Nicholas got him some new cars.

We aren't able to see his birth family until later in the summer.  But, they did mail him some presents.  He got some new clothes, books, and toys.  The microphone seemed to be a big hit – even with other members of our family.

We then headed to church where he officially joined his new class.  He was also able to pick something out of the birthday box.  He enjoyed a lemonade and actually wore a birthday hat he also got out of the box.

After church, he took a short nap before heading to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.  They were nice enough to open their home to his party with just a couple of days’ notice.  My mom wasn't feeling well all week and held off making a decision until she was sure that she wouldn't be better in time.

Daniel had a blast playing outside and looking at trains.  He loaded up on fruit and his cheeseburger.    We had a Curious George cake for him this year, which turned out pretty cute.

He looked a little unsure when we were singing to him.

But, I think he enjoyed the cake.

The next day my mom was feeling well enough to have us over.  Daniel got a few more presents.  This time I think he understood a little more and was almost disappointed when there were no more presents to open.

The helmet is for when Nicholas pushes him in the wagon.

I think all of the birthday fun and physical activity wore him out.  He fell asleep on the car ride home and was tired enough to be transferred to his crib for a long nap.

I am looking forward to this year.  I remember two.  I parented a 2-year-old for 8 months.   While each child is different, we’re finally getting to the age where we kind of know what to expect.  We’re no longer “first time parents" in the newborn/toddler stage.  I know this year will consist of tantrums and strong wills, but it will also be a fun time to watch Daniel’s personality continue to grow.
